Members of the Futsal Club have received many honours. Some players have played for Australia, some for the State, some have won competition honours from Football NSW. Most notably the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the competition, or the Most Valuable Goal Keeper in the Competition, others have won the Golden Boot award. This is an award to the person who scores the most goals in the competition. The Club also awards the MVP and the Golden Boot to one player in each team. Finally the Club has recognised that some people have put more than can reasonably be expected into this Club. Those people we have recognised in our Hall of Fame.

From the 2019/2020 Season the Club has decided to name its “dream team” for both men’s and women’s side of the Club. Regardless of the players age, the coaches selected who they believed were the outstanding players in the Club. One goal keeper and four field players are selected per team. Quite a deal of discussion and red wine goes into selecting these teams. Many great players miss out but the following have been selected.

There are certain people without whom this club would never have existed or people who through their skill rose to such a level they deserve to be elevated to our Hall of Fame.
John Myers Founder, President of Club, Player If there is a single person responsible for the establishment and achievements of this Club it is John Myers. John went to the Maccabiah games in 2005 and was so inspired that he came back from Israel and setup the Club. Not only was he a legendary goal keeper he was the heart and soul of the Club. Through his drive and determination he recruited brilliant coaches and players. He went to two Maccabiah, he also went to two European Maccabiah winning one. He was a player when the men’s team were the dominant team in Australia. |
|---|
Doron Pozniak (Doz) Founder, Club Captain, Coach, Manager Doron has played futsal since he was 13 years of age. He started played in competitions around NSW with the Heffron Hawks before getting involved in the early stages of the Maccabi club. To start he always sat on the bench, as being in a team full of South Americans makes places in the starting team hard to come by. Doron went to the very first 2005 Maccabiah. He toured as a player or a coach rightup to the 2015 European Maccabiah. He became Club Captain in 2009 leading the Club when its men’s team went on their amazing winning run. He Coached the men in 2014 to an undefeated championship and assisted Steve Knight at the 2015 European Maccabiah in Berlin. He had the privilege of playing under Scott Gilligan, Steven Knight and Simon Kieth. He also captained the club to the Asian Cup Qualifying rounds in Vietnam. |
Dale Levin Founder, Player |
Gareth Naar Founder, Club President, Player, Coach It would be easier to ask what Gareth hasn’t done in the Club. Starting as a player Gareth was part of the original 2005 Maccabiah team. He was selected in various Australian youth Squads. He then went to Rome in 2007 and then back to Israel in 2009. He was part of the team that won the very first F League and the European Maccabiah in Vienna. He switched to running the Club as the president and at the same time coached various teams. In one year he coached almost all the teams, which was great except when he argued with the referee and got a red card. That is when we learned that a red card means he is off for the whole day. Kids had to coach themselves for the remainder of the day as he was left screaming from the spectators seats. His coaching reached a pinnacle when he Coached UTS Men’s team in the Premier League and that year was voted Most Valuable coach in NSW. |
Simon Keith Australian Futsalroo, Player, Coach Simon Keith has played for 12 years on the Australian Futsal team, he then went on to coach the Australian Team. He joined Hakoah as a player in 2011 and helped the men’s team win the inaugural F League competition. He toured with the team in Vietnam. He then started coaching at the Club. He took the Australian Maccabiah teams in 2009, 2013 and the silver winning 2017 Maccabiah team. He brought a wealth of knowledge, determination and skill to the Club. |
Jordan Mundell Australian Futsalroo, Player, Coach One of the two Australian Futsalroos that this club has produced. He has played at the highest level that you can in Australia. He has played in more Maccabiah teams that anyone else in Australian Futsal history, having been to three (2009, 2013 2017). Along the way he has won State Competitions, F league, an European Maccabiah and a Silver medal at last years Israel Maccabiah. He has also coached for the Club and played in the Hakoah men’s outdoor team. |
Jarod Basger Australian Futsalroo, Player, Coach The most successful player that the Club has ever produced. Jarrod has been to two world cups, two Israel Maccabiah and two European Maccabiah. He played in Thailand and is presently playing professionally in England. Not only a player but he is a great coach having coached a number of Hakoah teams. |
There are certain teams that have produced Unbelievable results, results that other teams can only hope to emulate. These are the teams that deserve to be recognised as achieving something very special.

Whilst other teams from our Club have beaten other Jewish national teams and even on occasion have beaten national teams, from countries that no one knew actually played futsal, never before had we played against a strong National side. In the run up to the 2020 World cup qualifier we had been asked to play a game against the Australian Futsalroos. Really we were in a no lose situation. If we won were were champions, if we lost it was exactly what everyone expected. What no one expected was our team to start by far the strongest of the two teams. In fact after a magical goal by Gilly Swartz we found ourselves two goals in front. Australia was however clinical in from of goals and by midway through the second half had drawn level. Amazingly though we struck again and with only miutes to go it looked like a memorable victory was in offing. Unfortunately right at the death the Futsalroos scored and we had to settle for a memorable draw In the regular season the team did amazingly well as well. For long periods it was fighting for first place. A bad two weeks left it in a three way battle for fourth. In the last round of the regular season it finally beat Inner West and secured its first finals spot. The finals were nail biting affair. In 41 degrees they faught the winner of the competition the mighty Mascot Vipers to a draw. They prevailed in penalties, when Robbie Ezekiel scored after A viper had missed. The following day they took on the fearsome Inner West Magic. A team full of experienced Futsalroos, and although they went behind early on they continued to fight. They took the lead only to be pegged back and then with 30 seconds to go they scored the winning goal. For a Club in only its second year in the top division it was a memorable victory. |

This team created history. Never had a team from a newly promoted Club won their age group in the year after being promoted. The team did. The Club was incredibly lucky. Four girls from the previous year were retained and at trials we picked up another five tremendous players. From the start we knew that this team was special, we just didn’t know how special they were. From this team 7 players were selected for state Representative honours. Gisella Pipino U15 NSW Thunder, Olivia Mitchell U15 NSW Storm, Kiara Holyoake-Caceda U15 NSW Storm, Lucia White U15 NSW Storm, Felicity Mcneill U15 NSW Storm and both Daniella Batten and Akala Howell made the NSW Metro U16 team for AFA nationals |

This was the culmination of a two year programme that included 130 training sessions, two special tournaments, two seasons in state league and two tours to Thailand. We sent our most skillful team yet. It was coached by ex Futsalroo Simon Keith (Simo), and managed by Daniel Sharp (Shark Nado) and headlined by two Futsalroos in Jarod Basger and Jordan Mundell. After touring Thailand we headed straight to Pre Camp in Haifa. There we had a welcome ceremony, hosted by the mayor of Haifa, and a trip to the ancient city of Acre. Jordan, Jarod and Robbie then gave a talk to the under 16 Futsal team and handed out their shirts to them. The seniors then left Haifa via a ceremony, marking the terrible tragedy in 1997, where 4 Australian athletes died and 20 were injured when a bridge leading into the opening ceremony collapsed. The team then checked into their Hotel on the Tel Aviv beach front. This was followed by the 2017 Opening ceremony in Jerusalem and then it was “Go time”. The 20th Maccabiah had 10,000 Athletes from 85 Nations. In the Futsal competiteion we had teams from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cuba, France, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania, Mexico, Sweden, USA |
|---|
| Country | Rank |
|---|---|
| Brazil | 1 |
| Argentina | 2 |
| Israel | 3 |
| Australia | 4 |
| Lithuania | 5 |
As we were ranked 4, we were put in the pool with Brazil. As only one team from each pool moved into the Grand Final it meant that we had to beat Brazil when we played them or we would be relegated to the bronze medal play off.

Two years later as top age players the players from the under 12 2013/2014 team did it again. Winning their competition undefeated. To do it this year however required some amazing wins with the last kick of the game. In the Grand final against Quake they showed their dominance of the competition scoring four goals in 8 minutes to put the result beyond doubt. |

This team was the first junior team that we had created that had not only brilliant players but incredible depth. Coached by Adriano De Melo it went through not only undefeated but it won every game. Honours from this team included Ethan de Melo winning best player in the competition, Daniel Solsky best Goal keeper in the competition and Zac Sapsford Golden boot of the competition. |

For years Australian Futsal players had wanted a national competition. It was a requirement imposed by FIFA if Australia was to enter national teams into international competitions. It was however a very expensive exercise as teams would have to fly around the country to compete. Maccabi entered a team for the very first F league competition. It was considered part of the teams buildup to the 2013 Maccabiah. When all the games had been played this magnificent team ended up winning the competition and writing its name in the history books. |

After wining the Australian Super League competition the team flew to New Zealand to compete in the New Zealand National Championship. We were the only international team to be invited. The New Zealand National review reported the following. “After taking out the minor premiership by a runaway 14 points at the conclusion of Series Three, Maccabi proved too strong for the best New Zealand sides, demolishing Red Sox Manawatu 4-0 in the semi final before second half goals from Jordan Mundell and Jarrod Basger were enough for the visitors to take the title over a well drilled Capital side. Nineteen year old Basger also took out the Golden Boot award with 16 goals in fifteen series games, while team mate Daniel Fulton picked up the overall National League MVP”. |
